What To Take To University Checklist

It can be tough deciding what to take when you are off to uni for the first time. Take a look at the list below for a good idea about what you might need. It’s not an exhaustive list and of course you are unlikely to need everything on it either, but it’s a start!

Your Room

You will be spending a lot of your time sleeping and writing essays in your room, so it will need to be comfortable and homely. Whether in halls or a room in a student let, most places tend to be fairly simply furnished, so it’s time to get decorating! Posters, photos, your favourite duvet cover, a colourful rug and a small selection of pillows will soon transform the place into a cosy haven. You will definitely also need a few extra hangers for the wardrobe, a desk lamp and a hot water bottle for those wintry days when all you want to do is snuggle. A few basic cleaning items will be essential to keep the place smelling fresh and ready for friends to drop in at any time.

If your halls are self catered you will need to take some simple kitchen equipment. A couple of plates, bowls, mugs and glasses are a good start. Don’t forget to get some cutlery and perhaps a couple of good knives too. A toastie maker is always handy and is likely to win you plenty of friends, especially after a night out on the town. If you are fussy about cleanliness you will also want to bring your own washing up cloths and tea towels!

If you are looking for affordable student accommodation there are a variety of online resources, just like us, My House. Before you know it you will be all set up and living the student life. Have fun, study hard and don’t forget to make lots of memories – they say the uni years are the best of your life!
